Pia Awal selected as the 2006 “DreamGirl”, representing the Look Good...Feel Better® (LGFB) program as a spokesperson (a national public service program created from the concept that if someone with cancer can be helped to look good, their improved self-esteem will help them to approach their disease and treatment with greater confidence). LGFB is a collaboration of the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association (CTFA) Foundation, a charitable organization supported by the cosmetic industry, the American Cancer Society, and the National Cosmetology Association.

Current Status of Matchpia.org Campaign

We did it as a community, we got over 30,000 potential donors registered through our collective efforts…Congratulations, and thank you to all those who volunteered all the time and effort in helping all the South Asian Patients to find a Donor Match.

As of October 1st, 2006, we have recruited 31,609 donors in over 418 donor drives, in 291 cities in the United States. Since our campaign started 114 weeks ago, we have increased the South Asian Representation in the NMDP Registry by approximately 48% through our team’s collective efforts. Awareness of this crisis has spread through the South Asian Community, as we are all coming together to make a difference, please help us to keep the urgency of this message spreading, as there are now 30 South Asian Patients that need our help. Their hopes of a future rely on us helping them to find a donor match.

According to a source at the NMDP (based on their understanding of statistical information they collect.), by us signing-up 31,609 donors, “We will be enabling 15 patients to go into transplant every year for the next 10 years”. That’s a great start folks…let’s keep the focus going.

South Asian (Indian / Pakistani / Bangladeshi), donors are urgently needed to help South Asian Patients looking for a Donor Match. These patients have been diagnosed with various forms of Leukemia / other related cancers, and in immediate need of a stem cell blood, or bone marrow, transplant. This website provides details about how you can help all the South Asians, by finding a donor match.

If you need help finding a donor match for a patient who is a family member, a friend, or if you want to set-up a Donor Drive in your area, please ask us how we can help.

We at Matchpia.org, thank you for all your support and prayers for these South Asian and Minority patients. It is through all your overwhelming support and request, that we have developed a constructive relationship with the National Marrow Donor Program (NMDP). This relationship will allow us to provide feedback and recommendations for further effective South Asian and Minority outreach to the NMDP Leadership, on continuous basis.

So far, we have personally funded $642,400, and over 30,000 man-hours of volunteer's time and efforts to increase awarness of this crisis in the South Asian Communinty (cost associated with doing donor drives, printing, postage, DVD production, professional shout of Public Service Announcement for South Asian Community). We need your help in contributions (see below how you and your company can help), to continue this fight for our community and the 36 patients.
